What is hypnotherapy?
Hypnosis can easily be described as ‘being open to suggestion’. In a deeply relaxed state the subconscious mind is best able to respond positively and creatively to imagery and suggestions. When hypnotised your subconscious mind can focus on the things you wish to change and on the ways you can best do so, free from critical and anxious thoughts of your conscious mind. You ‘let things happen’ through your subconscious mind rather than trying to make them happen with your conscious mind.
After experiencing hypnosis , you will no longer feel that ‘part of you’ wants to change an old habit and ‘part of you’ is holding you back – your conscious and unconscious mind will work together as one, as you adopt new suggestions and beliefs to help you achieve your goals.
Myths about hypnosis
- Hypnosis can’t make you do anything you don’t want to do.
- You are always in control.
- Hypnosis allows you to focus on what you WANT to change … hypnosis makes it easier to achieve what you want to achieve
- Hypnosis can’t make you want to change aspects of your life that you don’t want to change.
- In hypnosis you are not asleep. You are deeply relaxed and will feel refreshed and revitalized at the end of a session. According to the American School of Hypnosis, 20-30 minutes of hypnosis is equivalent to 4 hours of sound sleep.
Power of visualisation
What the mind sees, the mind believes. Because you are relaxed or otherwise occupied mentally in hypnosis, the suggestions given to you by the therapist will be acted upon more easily by your subconscious mind.
Your role is to determine the limiting beliefs you wish to be free of, the new habits and behaviors you want to embrace. You will be guided by the therapist to create powerful images in your mind of the goals and desired outcomes you are striving for. With an open mind and desire for hypnosis to work, you will be truly successful.
Identifying limiting beliefs
Profound life changes can occur if you identify and modify limiting beliefs that may be holding you back in your life. With the guidance of an experienced therapist and while you are in a deeply relaxed state, it is easy to find a limiting belief from your past and change it to a new, healthier belief that will help you achieve your life goals. You may have limiting beliefs about your weight, your moods and anxiety levels, about your relationships, wealth and prosperity. For example, people will often put up with low paid jobs because at a sub conscious level they believe that is all they deserve.
Under hypnosis lateral solutions will emerge to counteract the limiting beliefs and open you to new possibilities.

How long does it take?
The number of sessions you require depends on the number of goals you are aspiring to, how much you WANT to change and how complex the issues are. e.g. Weight loss may be associated with lack of fulfillment, reward and boredom eating. An initial assessment and consultation will provide the information required to individualise a treatment plan for you.
